We hired John in December after purchasing a Cane Corso puppy. We don't live in Ontario, we live in BC, so we worked with John via Skype and email. It was the best decision and investment in our dog we have ever made. John's training is easy to put in place and follow through with. He is so helpful and always available for questions. We constantly have people commenting on how well trained our now 6 month old puppy is, and we plan to keep up with what we are doing! Our vet even asked how we were training him because he said he hadn't seen a male of this breed submit so easily and that was so well trained. This dog does what he is told because he has been given the command, he has never had a treat and does not need to be bribed with one. No matter what he is doing - whether chasing a ball, rabbit, playing with another dog or even eating, if he is called to come, he immediately stops and comes. Our 2.5 year old daughter can walk him on a leash and he stays right beside her without pulling. This is such huge change from previous dogs we have owned and trained using the "positive reinforcement" method. Through following John's instructions, we have never used any kind of negative force or even had to raise our voice with this dog. I cannot recommend John enough. I will never use another method to train a dog ever again. Thank you, John, for helping us give our dog his best life.
I have a challanging puppy. I decided that going to a 1hr class a week for 6 or 8 weeks was not the right fit for us and probably not give me the results I was looking for so I did some research. I read a lot! I found I agreed with the methods of John Wade. I made an appointment for him to come to my home and the results have been amazing! From the time he walked in my puppy was doing things I didn't think he could do and with practice (me and him) every day is better. John is always in contact and always there to help. One time I sent him an email and I'm sure he didn't even have time to read it and he was calling with the support and encouragement that I needed. John is very personable and brings humor into what can be a very stressful process. I would recommend John to anyone who is looking for a more natural way of training that doesn't rely on just giving your dog a treat when he does something right.
Having John come to our home and spending 3 hours teaching us his knowledge and expertise was extremely helpful. He went step by step on what we have to do to handle our dog’s behavior. Afterwards he will send emails with lots of information and check in to see how your progress is going. If you have any questions or problems that come up afterwards he encourages his clients to call or email him. We felt a huge sense of relief having him help us with our dog training.
John is amazing! He is so informative and makes awesome comparisons that actually make you understand where he is coming from. We had our first appointment with him on Monday and the change that I have seen already in our dog is amazing! He is starting to look at us as his teacher and listening! I am sure my neighbours are more appreciative since John was in too! No more barking at the wind for this dog. He is becoming extremely well behaved, giving us the opportunity to get through doors and go up stairs before being allowed himself. It will take some work for sure but knowing that at any moment if I feel overwhelmed I can email or call John and he will reassure me and walk me through it. He is a god send! I had previously taken Grizz to an obedience trainer and while yes he can now sit, shake a paw, etc., it did not set us up for anything but failure when I had no treats on hand. John teaches you how to teach your dog that listening should happen naturally and the reward is a happy, comfortable doggo!
John is amazing. You can tell he is so passionate about his work and really cares about your success with your dog! I originally approached him for one specific problem that I felt totally overwhelmed with…well I had a skype consult with him a few weeks ago now and I already feel so much more confident handling my dog and feeling very positive about our next steps. He not only gave me the tools to correct my main concern, but gave me so much information so I’m able to address any and all behaviour issues that come up. I could not have asked for more. His approach makes so much sense to me. I wish I had found him years ago. He really offers invaluable knowledge!
I contacted John on a Sunday afternoon as I had some concerns about my dog's interaction with my 9 month old. John not only immediately took my call but spent nearly half an hour on the phone discussing my concerns and the approach he would take with my dog, should I choose to work with him. The information he provided me in that initial phone call was incredibly reassuring and helpful. I was able to schedule an appointment with John shortly thereafter. He came to my home and worked directly with me, my dog, and other family members. There is a reason that John is known as London's "dog whisperer". He was truly fantastic with my dog. My dog is extremely high energy and typically very rambunctious with newcomers. Within the first 5 minutes of entering the house he had her calm and focused. John was able to show us within a couple hours how much our dog is capable of if we give her the right teacher. It has now been nearly a week since we have seen John. He has checked in with us multiple times to see how our first days of training have been going and has sent us a significant amount of material to ensure that we stay on track. We have seen a huge improvement with our dog already and are so impressed and grateful to John for all of his help. I would highly recommend using him for a dog of any age!
In just three days we have seen our second GSD calm down quite a bit. The way John explains things makes a lot of sense, and I love that the relationship between you and your dog doesn't come down to if you have treats or not.
After attending an information night that featured John I decided that he was the right choice for our dog situation. John came to our home and discussed at length what our concerns and goals were. He showed us what to do and then followed up the next day with a plethora of information. We are looking forward to continuing our dog rehabilitation with John's assistance
I started last night training myself and my puppy with John Wade. It was amazing. Myself and Coco my puppy learned so much especially me. In a short time I’ve already seen a difference in Coco being a much happier dog. She is already beginning to look to me for approval. This is all done with love and no treats. John gave me some basic guidelines to follow prior to my appointment. Coco did not have one accident in the house from the day I picked her up from the breeder. At 9.5 weeks she is fully house trained. Jong is the best. You will love him and so will your puppy or dog.
First seminar hopefully not my last. Great practical insight to building a relationship with your dog, and how to be successful in training them.
So far beyond my expectations! John did something that no other “ dog trainer “ has ever done. He took the time to educate me. It wasn’t about how good or bad my dog was. Nor was it about how I’ve done everything wrong. His training style is based upon years of scientific facts. We are not roommates. It’s a teacher student relationship. Simple easy training. No treats. Just like we did with our children. Voice. If we popped an M&M or Smartie in their mouth every time we wanted them to do something we’d have a rolly polly nation with bad teeth, and dentists driving around in Ferrari’s. John follows up after his visit and encourages you to call with any questions or concerns. Try finding anyone who will do that and not send you a bill. I could go on forever. His explanations are easy to follow and he relates them to real life. And, he’s funny!!!
John came to the house and was professional informed and explained what I call the “common sense” approach to training dogs, His techniques are quick and easy and I have seen a huge difference in my puppy’s behavior in just a couple of days. Highly recommend!
I really enjoyed our training with John. He had a lot of really helpful knowledge. My 2 year old Boston Terrier, Braxton has always been high energy and a bit of a handful. We had him in obedience classes which taught us and him a few useful tricks and commands and we enjoyed it however, we needed something more thorough as our boy is reactive around other dogs and extremely excited around people. John's methods focus on the relationship you and your dog have and how to get him to listen to you better overall. He does not rely on treats which I love because we were doing too much of that to the point where our dog caught on and would manipulate us for treats and wouldn't listen when treats weren't involved. John also does not suggest using force as a method to correct which is something that was very important to me. It has been a week since we met with John and Braxton is listening much better. I haven't used treats at all and he is responding much better, he is doing things to please us as oppose to doing it for treats. He listens to the sound of my voice now much better. John explains how to take things slow so that they actually work which will get you toward your goals faster. This has been working so well for Braxton and setting him up to succeed has really re-enforced his good behaviour. I intend on updated my review in a few months as I have a few goals I am hoping to reach with Braxton within 3 months and then I can give a more full review of how John's methods have worked for us. Also to be noted is John is extremely helpful anytime I have a question and the resources and trackers he provides are extremely thorough and helpful.
We had John come to our house to help with our 5 month old puppy. He immediately started teaching our puppy and my husband and I, how to develop a student / teacher relationship instead of a roommate relationship. He took control of the leash and kept Daisy with him while he talked to us. All the while he was training Daisy to listen to him and to read his tone and body language using both to reprimand and reward her behaviour. The rewards far exceeded the corrections and the leash was used only to get her attention. After our session, our heads were spinning and we had no idea how we were ever going to remember all that he had told us. Our puppy was a different dog than she had been upon John’s arrival. We worried that we wouldn’t be able to continue what he had started. That worry has turned out to be unnecessary because John immediately sent us emails explaining and reviewing everything we had covered. We have taken John at his word and contact him whenever we have questions about how we are supposed to do things – no matter how small. He is quick to respond and give us an immediate solution. It isn’t all on us to contact him though because he has continued to send emails with more and more information almost daily. His follow-up is invaluable. We are at day 6 now as I write this. Our puppy has done what every child does when they are learning something new – two steps forward one step back. We are working hard on Daisy’s training – even though it is simple, it isn’t easy! If anyone tells you training a puppy is easy don’t believe them. Our learning curve is steep. Each day we understand a little more of what we are doing. We are learning to recognize when our puppy is confused and realize that it is our mistake in moving too fast when that happens. Consistency and patience is important. John has broken down each skill into simple steps that get incrementally more difficult. We have learned that if we go too quickly we get setbacks but if we wait until what we are working on is strongly consolidated in Daisy’s mind we get better results. John stressed that the leash is not for correcting Daisy but just to remind her to listen to us. He told us that for every correction – negative tone of voice/body language – we should find 4 opportunities to say ‘good girl’. We are so glad that we engaged John’s services. His experience and knowledge of dog behaviour has set us on the right path. Prior to having him come to our home we had put Daisy in a puppy socialization class where she learned that she could be bullied by some dogs and she could bully others. Not particularly what we wanted her to learn. Then we put her in a group obedience class but she was so distracted at the classes and was developing a relationship with treats instead of us that we decided to try something else. That something else was John Wade and we have no regrets. We would highly recommend engaging John’s services as early as possible. We’ll check back with another review at the 90 day mark to let you know if we have received support all along the way and to let you know if all our hard work has paid off with the result being that we have the companion dog we had hoped for.
We wrote a review shorty after John visited our house for a training session. We felt that we should write a follow up review because we continue to be so impressed with the improvements John's training program has lead to and the continued improvement in our relationship with our dog. We are thrilled with John's willingness and honest care he takes in answering any questions we have. We have contacted him a few times when we have run into roadblocks and John takes the time to help us work through it. We highly recommend John to anyone who is looking for a highly knowledgable and caring dog trainer!
John was great with our rottweiler. Had some aggressive resource guarding issues with our dog and we reached out to John for help. His lesson began the second he came into our home and gave us great tips throughout the whole appointment. By the time John leaves, you will have a good grasp with how to approach proper training techniques and even after one visit you will notice a change. Thanks so much John !!
John is a very approachable and knowledgeable trainer who transformed my puppy in front of my very eyes. After a very informative training session, we were able to narrow down more things about me and my communication skills with my puppy that were creating problems in our owner and puppy power dynamics. My puppy now listens on commands without needing treat reinforcement and is starting to do better with listening infront of distractions (having guests come home, not barking when the door bell rings, etc). We have yet to venture out to be around other dogs but John’s methodology ensures that we don’t push the puppy too hard and that we set him up for success in situations he is most likely able to handle. My favourite thing about John is that you can reach him whenever. On days I felt like I just wasn’t able to train my puppy properly or if I didnt know what the right thing to do I was quickly able to send John a text or phone call and he would take the time to talk me through what needed to be done UNTIL I was confident in my own ability to train my dog. As a busy student, John always knew the right thing to say to make sure I myself wasn’t getting too stressed out. I am very glad I went with John to help address some of the issues I was having with my puppy. I look forward to working along side with him over the next while until my puppy and I are able to meet all of our goals together. Thank you John, I would be willing to recommend you to anyone!
John provided me with an lot of information before, during, and after the appointment with him. He is very knowledgeable, and was able to explain my dogs behaviour in a way that I could easily understand, and this made his training methods make sense. I was very comfortable letting him work with my 1 year old dog, and she did very well during the appointment. I am already noticing a difference in my dog. Would highly recommend!
John Wade is a great source of information on the behaviour and training of dogs. His explanations are informative and easy to understand. I highly recommend his services.
After adding a new puppy to our family, we decided to call John Wade to see if he could help us get him off to a good start. Before even booking a training session, John provided us with an abundance of great information to get us started. When John showed up to our house for the training session, he was very personable and professional. He told us what he was going to do and how our new puppy was going to respond. This is where I said to myself "ya right". Sure enough, it all came to fruition. I was blown away. I did not think that a puppy was capable of responding like that. The training session exceeded my expectations tenfold. I can't say enough good things about John and his training services. I can, without a doubt, say that John Wade provided and continues to provide a level of service that unmatched. Thank you Mr Wade.
As a first time dog owner, I can't believe the difference in my 3 month-old Australian Shepherd puppy, just two days after John Wade came to our house for a 2.5 hour appointment. His teaching techniques are simple yet effective, and he uses great analogies to illustrate the reasoning behind his methodology. I highly recommend John Wade for anyone needing help training their pup.
John came and helped me 20 years ago with my aggressive dog and that dog became one of the best dogs I ever had. So when I started having issues with my bulldog/boxer and Cane Corso fighting I reached out to the one person I know would help “John Wade”. As I expected he provided us with amazing techniques and a wonderful training schedule. His training does not involve force or reward/treats. I would recommend John to anyone needing help to understand there dogs better and make them great companions.
John is so knowledgeable and wants to share that. He came to my home and taught me how to teach my puppy. He didn’t take over, didn’t use treats or fear or force...he simply gave me the tools to teach my own puppy the skills we want him to have. He describes and explains everything so that it’s easy to understand the “why”, so I definitely had some a-ha moments. He follows up and is happy to answer texts or phone calls if there’s an issue. I would and will recommend John’s help to anyone needing dog training.
We had John in to train our new cocker spaniel puppy, Finn. My family had used John 12 years ago with our family dog (a newfoundland/golden retriever) and had great success so it was an easy decision to go with John Wade and his training services. Thanks to John's methods, we are already noticing a difference in bathroom habits (he is now going outside), mouthing, and jumping. John was so kind with our little guy and his training methods are easy to follow and gentle on the puppy. We like how John's methods don't use treats but instead use affection for the puppy mixed with a firm no when needed. John offers a tremendous amount of follow up support after he leaves the house, which is great for little or big questions that arise with a new puppy. My wife and I would (and already have) recommend John to any of our friends and family. Thank you John for coming to our home to teach us about how to be the loving and teaching dog parents we need to be! The photo attached is from the first day we got little Finn!
Great experience! We had John come to our home this week for a consultation and training program for our 19 week old Kangal/Cane Corso X puppy. We have been dog owners for over 40 years with various large breeds - lab/shepherd, Rottweiler, lab/Bernese. We have been reasonably successful in training over the years but have never quite mastered the "loose leash walk" and "come" in every situation. We had taken our pup to the first week of another trainer's 10-week puppy class, where we were asked to tie our pup to the wall while we watched others begin class. In that class we started right in to trying to learn tricks, with no discussion of our needs. We did not learn much, other than which dogs barked the most. We didn't go back. I used to listen to John on the radio and read his column but had never met him. In contrast to the previous trainer, John requested a full history including identified needs ahead of time and we were well informed in what to expect from the visit. Work began with our pup as soon as he arrived, while educating us about our unique breed - both joys and challenges, including safety with such a large protective/working breed mix. He shared his extensive knowledge in behavioural and biological factors, explaining the "why" while demonstrating technique. He taught us to use voice tone and body language to correct and praise combined with using his John Wade collar, designed to assist in getting our dog's attention focused on us. His skill in being firm without force was impressive, taught in an easy manner with humour woven in. We have a detailed stepped training plan with follow-up and articles/instructions. Now 2 days in and we are all ready seeing great changes and our pup seems to be quite content - honestly, it's harder for us to change our habits. We are looking forward to the ability to have relaxing and safe walks in every situation. I would highly recommend John to anyone.
John came to our home for a session with our new puppy. He was so personable, both with us and our puppy. He came super prepared, the entire process was very professional, John made sure to find out all he could about our puppy before he came. He also made sure to address any problems or questions we had, and tailored the session specifically to our situation. After a very tumultuous first few weeks with our new pup, John offered guidance regarding our behaviour and training approach which only could have come from his years of experience. 100% would recommend to any new dog owner.
About 15-16 yrs ago we had an issue with an 8 wk old rotti. The day we brought him home, he was snapping when attempting to feed him....I callEd John for help- literally in 1 day it was corrected!! Now we have another 9 wk old puppy and we had John over to our home and he worked with our family and new puppy. What a terrific experience. Many invaluable tips, and information to build on. Not only is john's knowledge and experience extensive, but you won't find a better, more down to earth person around! ( He's a funny guy too)! Ps. Our puppy told us he really likes him too!! Woof woof!
Very informative! It's amazing to see the steady improvements in our dog!
We noticed improvement in our dog's listening right away. We adjusted our behaviour, and our body language using the skills he gave us. This has had a positive impact on our relationship with our Terrier. John offers a lot of follow up which has kept us on track.
John was very knowledgeable and personable. Very pleasant to work with and had many great tips. I was hesitant to trust a random person to help with my dog, but I would highly recommend him!
John came to our home to help us with our new rescue dog as he has a severe case of fear aggression. John was very helpful from the moment he stepped inside our door, and by the time he left we could already see an improvement in the dog's behaviour. He gave us lots of great advice tailored just for our dog. John is always available if you have any questions regarding your training, and is very fast to reply to emails, texts and calls. We would highly recommend John!
John came to our home for a private session to help us with managing the typical puppy issues. It was great to have his undivided attention and tackle the issues in our own home where they occur. John is a very personable guy who takes his work seriously and has a ton of experience to share. His balanced training philosophy made a lot of sense to us, and some of his simple suggestions have already made a big difference. He taught us some basic skills and communication techniques to start with and has been available to answer any follow-up questions we may have. I would highly recommend having John help anyone with their dog training!
We wouldn't use anyone for dog training other than John and we can't say enough good things about him. His peronsal demenor is friendly and approachable. And when it comes to interacting with our dog, he was training from the moment he walked into our yard, not with fear or intimidation, but rather with a soft, consistent, 'I'm the boss to the dog' kind of approach. Within minutes our puppy was listening and responding. More importantly, we now understand why a dog behaves in certain ways and that makes it way easier to understand why John's approach works. Thanks John.
I highly recommend John for dog training. He came into our home when our dog was a pup. It was helpful for him to see how she behaved in her own environment and he gave us plenty of realistic tips and guidance to mould her into the dog she is today! 👍👍
John is a wonderful dog trainer. He worked with our bossy Aussie Shep cross and gave us simple but useful tips on making sure Bear knew he was not in charge. It was remarkable to watch him with Bear and how quickly he had him under control.
JOHN Wade is the best dog trainer I have met. He has helped us over the years in dog training. The best time to speak with John is before you purchased a puppy. He has a great understanding of breeding and dog traits that will help you select the right animal.
John was patient and very informative and understanding of our situation. He worked with the whole family (kids included). Everything he taught us has been extremely helpful, and he's always happy to answer any quick questions we have. I would recommend him to anyone!
I have known John for a long time, and have watched as he has progressed in his chosen field of dog training. It is with full confidence that I can say I would 100% trust him with his puppy and adult dog training advise. He has helped me with several concerns I have had over the years, with my various puppies and dogs, and I am always grateful for his sensible, no-nonsense, and logical recommendations; and, I am subsequently rewarded with a much happier and comfortable relationship with each of my dogs 🙂 Thanks John!
We just had our first session with John a couple days ago and what a great experience it was. John is extremely knowledgeable, charismatic, and he gave us a great program to work on with our dog. After going through a couple of basic training courses with other trainers with minimum results, John and his techniques are refreshing and are already showing results. I would highly recommend.
John's expertise and experience in training has saved my sanity on many occasions.
Over the last 18 years we have used John's professional services with all our dogs. He helped us with each rescue dog we adopted. My wife and I highly recommend John as an excellent, professional, caring, ethical, and kind trainer.
John is the best he help me in a major way with my cane Corso puppy to find the best food and training for me plus he sent a wonderful well-known dog trainer to help me train my puppy for a great price on the strength of Jon and I would recommend him to any one that needs help and advice he is the truth and I love all the knowledge he gave me and he took his time to do all these things for me I rate him over 100000 stars
John Wade has helped me train 3 family dogs into great companion animals. My first, had separation anxiety and John's kind, respectful training techniques were extremely helpful. We had John in for a house visit, and communicated via phone and email for follow ups. Then we had John's help training our Brittany Spaniel puppy. Since I was busy with a new baby at home, I sent our puppy to John for training, it was easy. I dropped him off a few times for a few hours and John did all the ground work. And we got back a respectful puppy that walked on leash and had a great recall. All we had to do was follow the same training methods John used that were very easy to do, and that were always based on respect and kindness. Just recently we wanted to add another dog to our household, and we booked John for a house visit to help us with training ideas for having 2 dogs and 3 cats in the same house. His methods are so easy to use, our kids can train the dogs and there is consistency with all family members this way. We now have 2 dogs that get along wonderfully, and who DON'T chase the family cats, thanks to John!
My wife and I have used John's services twice over the past 10 years for two Jack Russell Terriers. Both times he came to our home, both times he gave invaluable help and advice. We have recommended him to others. We feel comfortable using his tips because they follow respect and love. If you can ever see him in person, go!! If you need help and don't want to waste weeks at an obedience class, call John and make an appointment for a house call!
Last week I attended a seminar that John Wade hosted in Dorchester. It was the best thing I could ever do for my beloved family pets. I have been following John's advice that is based on respect and love, not bribery through treats and not use of force. I am seeing results, my dogs are happy to learn this way and I am happy to not feel like I always have to use treats to get them to do anything. They are more fun to be around because they are not doing things like barking at the doorbell and jumping up on guests now. Thanks John!
